Puppy training
We offer a variety of puppy training services. they range from free evaluations or phone advice to paid boarding/training.
PUPPY EVALUATION = FREE
PUPPY ADVICE OVER THE PHONE = FREE
PUPPY TRAINING CLASS= $100.00
We offer a private 4 lesson package that will teach you how to properly socialize and prepare your pup for more advanced training. There will be a class every 2 weeks until your pup and yourself have completed the 4 classes.
Your first class will teach you how to maximize your pup's prey drive and give them the best chance of success as a competition or hunting retriever. The first lesson will also teach you how to begin teaching "SIT" with only positive reinforcement.
The second class will reiterate on the retrieving aspect and the "SIT" and will begin teaching the "HERE" command with positive reinforcement.
The third class will reiterate lessons one and two and begin "HEELING" with positive reinforcement.
The fourth class is purely to reiterate lessons one - three. We will evaluate trouble areas and figure what needs to be done in order to balance out your individual pup's training.

PUPPY TRAINING (BOARDING)= $600.00 per month
Big River Retrievers will raise your pup for you all the way through basics or advanced training.
OBEDIENCE= $600.00
This package includes a 4-6 week "Boot Camp". Your dog will learn the commands "HERE", "HEEL" and "SIT"( "SIT" means "Stay") to the point of reliable off-leash compliance. These commands will be properly taught to your dog over the course of the initial 2-3 weeks while they are being boarded at our kennel facility. Once your dog has been taught all the commands we will begin to reinforce with gentle electronic collar conditioning. You will be asked to stay out of the training process for the first two weeks. During the latter part of the obedience training and collar conditioning process we would like to see you a minimum of 4 times; so as we can teach you how to work with your dog.

BASIC RETRIEVER TRAINING= $600.00 per month + cost of birds
Our Basic Training program is designed for the majority of our duck hunting clientele. It takes 3-4 months to complete this program. During this time your dog will learn obedience, collar conditioning, force fetch, steady to shot and be able to make simple multiple retrieves on land and in water. Your dog will also have been introduced to decoys and boats etc..
ADVANCED RETRIEVER TRAINING=$600.00 per month + cost of birds
Our Advanced Retriever Training program is designed to make your retriever the envy of all your hunting buddies. after the Basic Training program is completed the Advanced program will require another 3-5 months. During that time your dog will learn to respond to whistle commands and learn to "Handle" on blind retrieves. Your dog will also learn to "Honor" another working dog.
